For many years I have written poetry and prose and I would like to use this site as a platform upon which to share these ramblings. It also means I can keep all my writing in the one place, although I don’t ever see me getting rid of all the pieces of paper which seem to float around. Sometimes I will reach into the pocket of a jacket I haven’t worn for ages and deep inside there will be some scribbling, usually in the most illegible handwriting, which details some moment of thought from a time long forgotten. These are my memories scattered in the various pockets, drawers, bags and notebooks of my life that I will now find a place for here.

I like it when I find a place for things because it is a rarity in my life

I would like this to not only be a place for my writing but a place for myself and for others, should they so choose, to be moved or enriched or made thoughtful or however they might feel when reading. It is a place, where for the first time, I will be truly expressive in sharing something of myself with the most brutal honesty. Which is something that I think poetry in particular is about. I’ll probably add some prose and the odd random thought or opinion, alongside photographs or exerts of other writers I find interesting or inspiring and possibly some media too. Who knows..read along and find out!

Where ‘it’ can be found…

It’s in the small moments of thoughtfulness. It’s in the constant burning desire and that never ending willingness to please. It’s in every smile and gesture. It’s in all the moments apart when you want to be together. It’s in every second that you are reminded of them and in need of them. It’s in the excitement and the way you look forward and you feature them in all of your plans. It’s in the way you take their hand as if you were holding their heart and soul. It’s in every moment of joy and laughter. It’s in your willingness to give and share. It’s in every effort that for you is effortless. It’s in the longing and the anticipation. It’s in the child-like thrill that makes it all worthwhile. It’s in all the consideration and the overwhelming need to protect it at all costs. It’s in your heart and it’s in what drives you forward. It’s in your day and night. It’s in your dreams. It’s in the way you need to put them first. It’s in the way you think and the way you see the world. It’s in the way you have been changed. It’s in the way you have been moved. It’s in your values. It’s in you and it lives and burns and it is immovable, unshakable and worth more than anything else in the world. It is to be valued, shared and expressed at all costs. It is what you live for. It is love.

Mouths meet in a whirl of words unspoken
Lights fade and the image is changed
Amidst the glass that’s broken
What was your promise?
What made it true?
It seems that where I end
The beginning is you

Knees buckle still wet and tongue tied
Hands merge and stop and start and pull apart
I’m tried and tested and tested and tried
Slammed down to rise again
To know the difference
Between lover and friend
Where we meet to repeat the last
Under fire and overhead
Beware what lives beneath your bed

Though I know it can’t be wrong
I’ll take it and face it and never replace it
The bloody battle rages on
It began so long ago
I’ll stay at your pace and lie at your feet
And let you take it slow
I’ll chew at your ear and try not to fear
All the stones that you throw
I’ll move through the rain
And spin with the wind
Taking it in and accepting the pain
I just need to know

Know you forever
Bathe in guilty pleasure
And take the darkness away
When the stars start to shine
And you want to be mine
And the need shifts from me to you
It rises and falls
Breathing
Love
Necessary
True

A ROUGH VERSION OF A NEW ONE…I’M WORKING ON IT. THE MOTIVATION IS SIMPLY THAT WHEN YOU HAVE TRUE AND PURE LOVE FOR SOMEONE AND THEY GET FUZZY…YOU GET FUZZY. WHEN YOU HURT…I HURT…

Put your head upon my shoulder

Sigh out your heavy burden

Lay your tales of woe upon me

And we’ll make them long forgotten

Let us curl up together

And take our time in each other’s arms

Let’s make a little home inside

Where the world can do no harm

I wish that you would trust me

Let me love you like I do

I have hope you’ll take a leap of faith

Because as much as you need; I need you

SWALLOWED BY A WHALE

I came across this little piece that I had written not so long ago but like the wave it never stays just this way…I’m hoping for the tide to come back in soon….

SWALLOWED BY A WHALE

In the haze of my gritty eyed half sleep
I roll through the weighty covers of our retreat
My side is warm and yours warmer

All rolled up
Cocooned
Marooned off side

I hide
Pillow over face
Over head
Your slumber continues as you play dead

There’s a line of light across your form
Cool white softness
Gentle
Warm

Rolling hills and palest sands
Crisp clean blanket over foreign lands
I crawl towards the water’s edge
Covering space inside your bed

My fingers trace my favourite line
Travelling roads that are not mine
I reach round to that soft spot and curve in back
I’ve been lured in and gone off track

Your tide moves in to brush my skin
And stirs your senses into view
I’m being swallowed whole
I have been consumed by you

Underneath your size and weight
Magnificent splendour I can’t escape
And so I make my home inside your skin
I’ve taken up residence deep within

All is still and deathly silent
Shaken by something deeply violent
Taken in by the whale and the giant wave
I’m now at peace…I have been saved.
